The Oak Creek Canyon Task Force Needs Your Help!
INDIAN GARDENS VISITOR CENTER
Restroom Facilities, February 2008
After almost three years of hard work, the Oak Creek Canyon Task Force grant projects are nearly complete and mainly include new restrooms at the Visitor Center, Indian Gardens; a new well and utility infrastructure; the Keep Oak Creek Canyon Beautiful anti-litter program with dumpsters at Indian Gardens; a new shower disposal system at Cave Springs Campground; sediment traps at two recreation areas; trailhead signs at 12 locations; and construction of a web site to inform and educate visitors as well as communicate with residents and businesses in the Canyon, and adjacent areas such as Sedona and Flagstaff.
Through volunteer efforts, state, county, city, business and private donations, we are down to the last 10% of our work which includes the final phase of the rest room construction, but must raise $15,000 in order to have them open for public use on May 23, 2008, in time for Memorial Day weekend.
There are no public bathrooms in Oak Creek Canyon and these facilities are desperately needed to accommodate increasing numbers of tourists and visitors. Without restrooms, the banks of Oak Creek become the alternative, and contamination is happening. The Task Force is dedicated to protecting the integrity of our Canyon environment, and we ask you to participate in this solution with us. We are making a difference, together.
